What is an Adult Education Directory?
A directory is a structure of web pages used to categorize information in a hierarchy, in this case, links to adragogical web sites or web sites whose content is focused primarily on topics of interest within the field of adult education. This directory can be used to link to other online resources much the way that other Internet directories operate. This is an acceptable means of marketing your resources without spending any money. Do not let mis-conceptions, professional jealously, or territoriality prevent you from taking advantage of the new way information is handled. Cross linking with web sites who have similar topical content, even though it may be substantially different details, will improve the number of people who access your resources.
What do I have to do to create a link in this directory?
You need to sign up to create your account, or sign on to your existing account. Both options are available on the 'Sign In' page. To prevent un-wanted and off topic posts we will send you an email with your user name and password. For your link to be posted in the directory you must return to the site and sign on with the user name and password we sent to you via email. After you sign on for the first time and set your permanent password you may access your web site links for updating through the 'Control Center'. From then on you simply click the link that says "Add Web Site". Really, it is that simple. The information you will need to provide about the web site is:
- The URL, commonly known as the address of the web page. It looks like: http://www.mywebsite.com/mypage.htm
- The title of the web page, which is usually the department or school name, or the title of the document.
- A brief description of the contents of the page. Use words that you would consider applicable to your page, words that identify the contents. Ask yourself "What words would I search for in a search engine if I wanted to find my page?", and then use those words in your description.
- You will also need to select the geographic location of the organization who owns the resource. Idaho universities are listed in Idaho, Florida Tech schools are listed in Florida, and so on.
There are other features of the web site that are self explanatory or still under construction. If you see an inactive link or a link that dead ends it is most likely a temporary problem. If you find larger more serious errors please feel free to send an email with the name of the page that is having problems.
